Youth today face many challenges. Partners for Prevention works with young people to learn about the issues they are experiencing and to implement evidence-based initiatives to help prevent more issues from emerging.
Partners for Prevention helps advise Westbrook High School’s Youth Leadership Coalition (YLC). YLC students work to raise awareness about substance use, mental health, and available resources in the community in order to help their peers.
YLC youth help lead community-wide prevention initiatives such as Sticker Shock and Compliance Checks. Partners for Prevention has also worked with the Gateway to Opportunity Program to provide paid learning opportunities for young people during the summer. These youth groups learn some public health concepts and have an active role in developing a product to help educate and raise awareness about substance use concerns within the community.
If you are a young person (ages 12 to 18) and looking for resources to help yourself or your friends/loved ones, you’ve come to the right place! If you’d like to learn more about how to get involved, email partnersforprevention@westbrookschools.org. We’d love to hear from you and work together to prevent and reduce youth substance use in Westbrook!
